Small Business Help in Logan, UT and Cache Valley, UT: Chamber, Advisers and Records

In Cache Valley, a lot of the help that matters before a funding request comes from outside a funding service: an adviser who reads your plan, a chamber event, a public record.

In short

Ironport Capital Group, a small-business funding service in Logan, Utah, lists the kinds of help Cache Valley owners search for before a funding request: the chamber of commerce, small business development center advising, county records and public business data. Ironport is not affiliated with any of these organizations, and their details should be confirmed with them directly.

Not affiliated, and why that matters

Ironport Capital Group is not part of, endorsed by or paid by any chamber, small business development center, economic development office, city or county. The organizations below are listed because owners search for them, and they can help in ways a funding service cannot, such as reviewing a business plan or introducing local buyers and suppliers.

Cache Valley Chamber of Commerce and its events

The Cache Valley Chamber of Commerce, with its events and gala, is a place for networking, referrals and local visibility. A chamber can be a good place to meet bookkeepers, attorneys and other professionals you will need around a funding request.

Small business development center locations

Small business development centers offer advising on plans, cash flow projections and financing readiness; ask the center about any fees. Owners searching for small business development center locations want the nearest office. Bring a draft plan, your last two tax returns and a list of questions.

County records and the Cache County, UT website

Property records, recorded documents and county office contacts are reached through Cache County's official website. A funding partner reviewing a request secured by property or equipment may check public records; looking at your own first avoids surprises such as an old lien that was paid but never released.

Logan, UT manufacturing companies in the Census data

An owner looking up Logan Utah manufacturing companies or big companies in Logan Utah may want suppliers, customers or employers to sell to. This site names no employers, because its sources contain no employer-level data. County Business Patterns does show the scale: Cache County had 223 manufacturing establishments with employees in 2023, employing 15,608 people with about $1.05 billion in annual payroll, the largest payroll of any sector.

Within manufacturing, 30 food manufacturing establishments reported 5,193 employees and 49 fabricated metal product manufacturers, including machine shops, reported 837 (CBP 2023). Four establishments in the county had 1,000 or more employees in 2023, though the Census does not say which. If you sell to large manufacturers, ask for their payment terms in writing before you bid: those terms, more than the size of the order, decide how much working capital the contract needs.

Public business data you can use in a plan

A plan that shows you understand the local market reads better to an adviser and to a funding partner. The Census Bureau publishes the figures this site uses: County Business Patterns for businesses with employees, Nonemployer Statistics for those without, ZIP Code Business Patterns for ZIP-level counts, and the American Community Survey for resident data such as self-employment.

For Cache County, those sources show 4,140 employer establishments in 2023, 11,862 nonemployer businesses in 2024, and an estimated 9.1% (+/- 0.8) of employed residents who were self-employed in 2020-2024. Cite the program and year with any figure, keep ZIP counts labeled as ZIP counts, and never add employer and nonemployer counts together; they come from separate Census programs and separate years.

Self-employment estimates: Logan, UT, Cache County, UT and the state

The American Community Survey estimates the share of employed residents who work for themselves. For 2020-2024 it put Logan at 6.4% (+/- 1.1), Cache County at 9.1% (+/- 0.8) and Utah at 9.4% (+/- 0.2).

Read the margins before comparing. Logan's range (5.3% to 7.5%) does not overlap the county's (8.3% to 9.9%), so the city's estimate is lower than the county's by the survey's own measure. The county and state ranges overlap, so they cannot be told apart this way. These are resident figures; they count where people live, not where their businesses are registered.

Employer sizes in Cache County, UT, from the 2023 size classes

County Business Patterns groups the county's 4,140 employer establishments by headcount. In 2023 there were 2,586 with fewer than five employees, 574 with five to nine, 481 with 10 to 19, 333 with 20 to 49, 85 with 50 to 99, 54 with 100 to 249, 16 with 250 to 499, seven with 500 to 999 and four with 1,000 or more.

For a plan or a sales list, that spread is more useful than the total. A supplier pitching to the county's larger employers is pitching to 166 establishments with 50 or more people, by our sum of those classes, while a service sold to very small firms has thousands of possible buyers.

A four-week order for getting help before a request

  1. Week one: pull six months of business bank statements and the last two tax returns, and write one paragraph on what the money would pay for.
  2. Week two: book a session with an adviser and bring the questions listed below.
  3. Week three: check the county's public records for your business and any property or equipment you will offer as collateral.
  4. Week four: revise the paragraph and projection with the adviser's notes, then send the request or call.

Nothing about this order is required. It simply puts the adviser's review before a partner's, when changes still cost nothing.

Questions worth asking an adviser

  • Which funding type fits the purpose, and why?
  • Does my projection hold up if sales come in 20% lower?
  • Are my records ready for a partner to review?
  • What would make the request easier to approve six months from now?

An adviser's answers do not bind any funding partner, but they often show where a plan is thin before a partner sees it.

What to bring to an adviser before a funding request

  • What the funding would pay for, with quotes or invoices
  • Two years of business tax returns, or as many as exist
  • Statements for the Ironport file: three to six months of the business account
  • A simple projection of how the purchase earns back its cost
  • Every current loan and lease, with its monthly payment

The same documents serve a funding request. See the six funding types to match the purpose to a product, the Logan, UT business page for county figures, and the other Cache Valley guides.
